Who We Are

Beacon of Light Foundation™ is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization created in 2007 by Theta Epsilon Sigma Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated to provide substantial scholarship awards to exceptional female high school seniors for study at a four year accredited college or university of their choice. Since inception, Beacon of Light Foundation™ has awarded more than twenty-two thousand ($22,000) dollars in scholarships to local female high school graduates for college expenses.

Mission Statement

It is the mission of the Beacon of Light Foundation™ to enable college-bound women the opportunity to attain greater heights of education through scholarship. To honor our educational opportunities and achievements, and that of strong women who have come before us, we continue to light the way for those who are to follow.

What We Do

Beacon of Light Foundation™ Scholarship

Each Spring, local high schools are encouraged to promote the Beacon of Light Foundation™ scholarship opportunity to their senior class. Eligible students must complete an application, a writing sample, provide official transcripts, letters of recommendation, and a college acceptance letter. The applications are reviewed by the scholarship committee. Scholarships are awarded at our annual Scholarship Brunch in June.

Erika D. Jackson Memorial Scholarship

In Fall 2019, Beacon of Light Foundation™ launched a new scholarship opportunity for continuing college women, the Erika D. Jackson Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship honors a dedicated soror of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated, who passed away in 2015. Applications are due by December 15th and scholarships are awarded in January.
